I have a new double loop 16mm work, posted on Vimeo here:
The work is a double film loop for 16mm film projector, silent, indefinite duration. Two identical loops, ten seconds long, but one shorter than the other by one frame, run through the same projector. Every ten seconds the conjunction between the two loops changes by a frame, generating shifts in the moiré patterns generated by the superimpositions. It takes forty minutes (240 frames x 240 repetitions) to exhaust all the permutations.
Two photographs of film strips from my new four projector loop film Quadrants, which will be premiered at the Mostra De Cinema Periférico in A Coruña, Spain, in June. Like the previous works 4 X LOOPS (1974) and Rings (2012) the film is composed of a short repeating pattern of movements in the form of ten second loops. The projectors are moved into various configurations during the projection, which usually lasts around twenty minutes. The second image shows one complete cycle of eight frames.
